Red Velvet Banana Bread

Banana Bread:

  • 1¼ cup sugar
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 ripe bananas
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp red food coloring

Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 4 oz cream cheese, soften
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract


  1. Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees and line a 9 x 5 inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
  2. In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat sugar and butter until fluffy. Add the eggs and mix until combined.
  3. Mash bananas with a fork, and add to the mixing bowl. Pour in the milk and vanilla, and then mix until combined.
  4. In a small bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt. Slowly pour into the wet mixture with the mixer on low speed.
  5. Add in the red food coloring and mix until combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for one hour.
  7. While the bread bakes, make the frosting by combining all of the ingredients in the bowl of electric mixer. Mix until combined and smooth.
  8. Spread frosting over completely cooled bread before serving.
